Who needs counselling?

There are times when counselling can really help. Marital discord can place stress on the whole family and affect work. Eating disorders including anorexia which mask deeper rooted problems. Bereavement and illness, coping with actual loss or the loss of what you could once do. Problems associated with being bullied or abused either within the home, at school or in the workplace. Spousal violence, carrying the strain of the secret and the anger of being a victim. Unhappy childhood with problems such as abuse/troubled parents or siblings which has led to low self-esteem. These are just a snapshot of problems that can be dealt with in a caring and professional environment. Depression is often the biggest problem that clients' face, either because they are prone to depression or because of life events.

Who is Catherine Bennett?

Catherine Bennett is a Psychologist Counsellor currently working in Luxembourg in private practice (in English). She is originally from the United Kingdom, but has lived and worked in Luxembourg for many years. Having followed a career in banking in the City (London), she took a break to have a family. It was during this time that she trained in Psychology, specialising in Child Development, Play Therapy and Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy.

Having counselled pregnant mothers, post-natally depressed mothers and mothers who had associated problems with their newborns, Catherine furthered her counselling skills with Person-Centred Counselling (Carl Rogers) and latterly Psychodynamic Counselling. Psychodynamic Counselling is more analytical in its approach and refers back to the ideas of Freud, Jung, Winnicott and influential work by Klein.

Whilst Catherine follows a multi-disciplinary approach, some clients have a preference for working with one approach, or some symptoms respond better with another. Before leaving England, Catherine worked both within Primary Care in a Doctor's surgery and in Private Practice.

Will anyone find out I am having counselling?
Catherine Bennett offers an ethical, confidential and professional therapeutic relationship. The Counselling Room is a private space where the client can feel safe that their lives are protected from the outside world. The boundaries are an important part of the Counselling Contract which are discussed at the start of the counselling process.

Counselling Sessions
The sessions are of 50 minute duration. At the Assessment Interview the number of sessions are negotiated. This can be anything from 6 weeks for a Cognitive Behavioural Program to a year for more analytical work. Catherine Bennett works from 9.00am until 3.00pm Mon-Fri with occasional evening slots for Couples Counselling.

Will it work?
Sometimes it seems hard to believe that anything can change. In fact things can change and the process of counselling helps clients see how powerful they can become in changing their lives to positive effect. How altering their responses and reactions can radically change how they are with their family or with their colleagues.
